If Love is a Secret

Lyrics - If Love is a Secret - Pal Sheldon

I know every wayward curl
The guilty pleasure in your face as you're laughing
and with all my subtle words
I'm trying to tell you something.

You undress me with your voice
Know how to get under my skin, and stay there
and with my hearts defence distroyed
I'm trying to tell you something
I've got to tell you

If love is a secret, I can't keep it
It's the sort of thing I can't hide
No need to ask me difficult questions
You can tell, just look in my eyes.
It's like clouds after the rain flooded with sunlight
If love is a secret, I can't keep it.

If we get close enough to touch
It takes all my strength, to hold myself together
and If I try to cover it up
That's when I gotta tell you something, I gotta tell you

If love is a secret, I can't keep it
It's the sort of thing I can't hide
No need to ask me difficult questions
You can tell, just look in my eyes.
It's like clouds after the rain flooded with sunlight
If love is a secret, I can't keep it.

Pal Sheldon - Exit Wounds EP Digital.jpg

Story

If Love is a Secret is the second song on Exit Wounds. It was inspired by seeing a couple of friends of mine obviousley in love and how it was imposible to hide it even to me as a casual observer. It got me thinking about how we hide emotions away untill we can't stand the pressure anymore. Then sometimes either blurted out uncermoniously, or over a candle lit dinner or the back seat of a taxi home it bubbles up in all sorts of ways. The wait for the reaction, the hope of acceptance, all these things are of a secondary nature at that moment because its all about release of the truth, all pretense abandoned. The joy of confession.

The Recording

This song was written in Nashville, I remember it was winter and there was snow on the ground. It took a few rewrites to get it to where it is today. The beds were all recored at my studio Artec Sound, the drums are programmed as are the strings I'd much rather have the real thing but budget is budget. The piano part was played by Dave Le grand (yes that is his real name) it was a matter of less is more with that recording and I like the way he adds the magic.
