Lyrics - Wave of Love - Pal Sheldon

Gona ride this wave of love,
Through the curl and crash and crush
and though it takes my breath away, I'm gona ride it anyway.

Come on baby don't think about it, when love hits you've got to ride it
No good just watching from the shore line.

Cause love's not a feeling that you can stop, decide one day you've had enough
it's a wave and you just can't get off, this wave of love, come on

Ride this wave of love,
Through the curl and crash and crush
and though it takes your breath away, Ride it anyway.
Ride, ride ride ride, this wave, this wave of love, Ride this wave of love with me baby.

Cause you and me we're like the cat and the moon,
looking at each other wondering what we'll do, You can't fight mother nature.

But don't worry baby when the sea gets rough, we'll have each other and that's enough
we can hold on tight see how far we can take it, this wave of love come on

Ride this wave of love,
Through the curl and crash and crush
and though it takes our breath away, we'll ride it anyway.
Ride, ride ride ride, this wave,

Ain't got no reason for you, just come and hold me closer, we'll let this moment take us while it feels so right.
Cause that's not the sound of thunder thats the sound of love down under, can you hear it surging lifting higher.

Ride this wave of love,
Through the curl and crash and crush
and though it takes your breath away, Ride it anyway.
Ride, ride ride ride, this wave, this wave of love, Ride this wave of love with me baby.

Pal Sheldon - Exit Wounds EP Digital.jpg

Story

Wave of love is the first song off of the EP Exit Wounds and was written in Crows Nest, Sydney Australia. It's about surrender. Just letting yourself be taken over by the wash of good feeling that falling in love can bring. As I grew up on the beach in Newcastle NSW, I can remember many times diving into the ocean, being swept up in the current and tumbled around like I was in a washer, only to suddenly stand up again facing the opposite direction, totally bewildered by the dizzy feelings in my head. Falling in love can be a bit like that sometimes.

All that foam and the thunder of the waves, the exhilaration as you are lifted above the world before the wave crashes further in, or the spray coming back off the wave when the wind is off shore. I love the beach, and this song tries to marry the good and the dangerous about the beach with those same things that happen is a relationship.

The singer is already in the water as he calls back to his love, come in to the water, it'll be fun, lets just see what happens, we can't waste this great day with all this beautiful surf.

The Recording

The songs beds (Drums, Bass Accoustic Guitar and Organ) were recorded at Mixmaster in Adelaide. Mick Wordly, who owns Mixmasters is a great friend of mine so I decided to drive down to Adelaide before leaving for Nashville to record a few beds for the EP. His studio is fantastic. Hand built out of mud brick. The console is an classic SSL, and the place is chockers (Australian for full up) with top shelf outboard gear and microphones. I remember sleeping on the floor of the studio and waking up to the 10ft grand piano in the corner, lots of fun. After the beds were done I then finished the steel and the vocals in Nashville at my studio Artec Sound. I was able to mix the song there as well, which gave me plenty of time to ruminate on the final sound.
